Nas mulheres, o LH estimula a matura\u00e7\u00e3o final do fol\u00edculo, a ruptura folicular e a ovula\u00e7\u00e3o. O LH humano \u00e9 secretado pelas c\u00e9lulas gonadotr\u00f3ficas do lobo anterior da hip\u00f3fise em resposta ao horm\u00f4nio de libera\u00e7\u00e3o de gonadotrofina (GnRH) secretado pelo hipot\u00e1lamo. Em um ciclo menstrual normal, o feedback negativo produzido pelo estradiol inibe a secre\u00e7\u00e3o de LH na fase folicular. \u00c0 medida que o fol\u00edculo se desenvolve (em resposta ao FSH), aumenta a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de estradiol, determinando um aumento na GnRH e uma maior sensibilidade da hip\u00f3fise ao GnRH. Um aumento de GnRH provoca uma produ\u00e7\u00e3o maior de LH na fase pr\u00e9-ovulat\u00f3ria (metade do ciclo) e a ovula\u00e7\u00e3o. Ap\u00f3s este aumento, o LH \u00e9 inibido durante a fase l\u00fatea por causa do feedback negativo da progesterona e do estradiol. Nas mulheres em idade f\u00e9rtil, as varia\u00e7\u00f5es nas dura\u00e7\u00f5es dos ciclos s\u00e3o causadas pelas varia\u00e7\u00f5es na dura\u00e7\u00e3o da fase folicular. Em mulheres na menopausa, os n\u00edveis de LH s\u00e3o elevados por causa da produ\u00e7\u00e3o menor de estr\u00f3genos e progesterona ovarianos, que elimina o mecanismo de feedback negativo na hip\u00f3fise. Nos homens o LH \u00e9 frequentemente chamado de horm\u00f4nio estimulante das c\u00e9lulas intersticiais e influencia a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de testosterona pelas c\u00e9lulas de Leydig dos test\u00edculos.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
